About Wing Chun

Beyond Wing Chun in Orange County, the art itself is unlike anything you'll ever do. Although it is considered as a type of kung fu (Chinese martial art), it is very different in its approach than others.

Wing Chun is a scientific form of martial arts that gets its effectiveness from the use of physics, anatomy, geometry and physiology. Wing Chun was further developed based on practical application in Hong Kong by our grand master, Yip Man (aka Ip Man).

Wing Chun's specialty is in street practical close-quarters combat. It uses fast, compact punches and low kicks with an extremely condensed defense, integrated with active, narrow stances and efficient footwork for DEVASTATINGLY quick attacks. The effectiveness of Wing Chun comes from its relentless dedication to efficiency!

Due to its proven success in realistic situations, it is regarded by many self-defense authorities as their personal choice of hand-to-hand combat. However, the beginning Wing Chun student must learn to only give the correct amount of energy, while staying as relaxed as possible. Wing Chun students learn to overcome brute force with positioning and footwork rather than meeting it head to head. Wing Chun also uses kicks, sweeps, palm strikes, elbows, knees, head-butts, trapping and grappling control techniques as part of its self-defense fighting.

Here is a clip from the movie, Ip Man, featuring Wing Chun in action!
